Are DVD Rental Kiosks a big scam?

Is it worth it to own kiosks and rental machines?

DVD rental kiosk scams are out there, and you might want to think twice before making the investment in technology for the renting of DVDs and physical disks because of the costs involved. For one thing, you will need to buy or lease the machines, pay the cost of setting up a phone/internet line for authorizing credit cards, and repair the machines when they break. On top of this, they are a target for theives who will be going for everything from the disks to the copper wires in the machine itself. Unscrupulous sellers will try to get you to buy a minimum number of machines, and you will have to get new titles (sometimes at retail) which people will lose and break, and then you have to go after them at which point they will just charge back on their credit cards. DVD Rental Kiosks are popping up all over the place. Despite the fear that digital downloads will destroy the DVD market, 30% of people who have an internet connection do not have a fast enough one to stream movies. Automated DVD Rental Machines fill a need in communities everywhere, since they offer 24 hour video rental access to people, are unmanned, and are low maintenance. Basically a vending machine full of DVDs, these rental kiosks are popular among small business franchisees who want to generate income with one or more locations for DVD rentals. Video rental stores are going out of business, but that only creates a need from people who still went to those places for a night's entertainment. Your DVD rental machine may be popular several nights a week for people who want to see a movie and don't care to wait for one in the mail.

Notes and Special Information

Special note: A certain amount of work goes into maintaining a kiosk, finding the right location, maintaining it, and keeping up with the newest releases.
